Programme Structure
Programme Aims

This programme aims to provide students with an education in language studies that is relevant to the multilingual and multi-cultural milieu of Hong Kong.

  1. The Specialization of Chinese provides students with solid and comprehensive training in Chinese language and literature, equipping them with both the conceptual and practical skills needed for further academic work as well as for professional tasks involving the use of Chinese.

  2. The Specialization of Linguistics and Language Technology has a dual emphasis on linguistics and language technology. Graduates will answer the demand in Hong Kong and the surrounding regions for competent users of language and modern IT technology. They will also be well-prepared for further studies in theoretical, applied and computational linguistics.

  3. The Specialization of Translation and Interpretation offers students an education in translation studies, preparing them for careers in the profession of translation and further studies in translation or other related disciplines. Students will not only learn skills and techniques in the practice of translation and interpretation, but will also acquire an understanding of the cultural context for communication across languages.

  4. The Specialization of Japanese equips students with solid Japanese writing and speaking skills that are relevant to the contemporary academic and business settings. It also aims to critically study Japanese history, culture and society, with a special focus on China-Japan cultural exchange.
