Cinema is a fast-expanding field of intellectual inquiry across and outside the humanities. In recent years, the study of Asian cinemas, especially the cinemas of China, Japan, and Korea, has made tremendous contributions to our understanding of film and the regional cultures of Asia, and has introduced new ways of understanding film - both as a popular cultural medium and a powerful social discourse - in non-Western societies. By bringing together established scholars from local and overseas institutions, the two-day symposium aims to foster intellectual exchange and enhance interdisciplinary co-operation in the development of new and emerging areas of knowledge in the study of film and society and culture in Asia.
