The mission of the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics of City University of Hong Kong is to provide its students with quality higher education; to contribute to the advancement of knowledge; to interact with departments of the same subject areas in other institutions of higher education and professional bodies; to cooperate with industry, commerce and the community; and to offer access to the Department's human, physical and technological resources for the benefit of society. Anticipating and responding to local and regional needs and the effects of rapid social, technical and linguistic change, the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics promotes research, both basic and applied.
The Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics aspires to excellence in appliable scholarship and teaching in all major areas of study in the Department, contributing to the ongoing development of City University of Hong Kong as an internationally recognized leader in the advancement of our understanding of the nature of language, and its formative role in society and culture.
